Adult Ballet
The Adult Beginner Level is ideal for those who have never studied ballet or who studied as a child and wish to re-familiarize themselves with the art. Dancers can expect to learn fundamental movements, vocabulary and traditions associated with classical ballet. Prepare for a welcoming, fun, and relaxed atmosphere that focuses on the fundamentals of classical ballet.
The Intermediate and Advanced classes are intended for those adults who have had some previous ballet experience, as well as those who have had several years of serious study. Class sessions will ultimately be taught to the level of whoever is enrolled, but will include more repetition, a faster pace and more exercises than the Beginner Level. Women of an appropriate level may wear pointe shoes during designated class times. There is no requirement to participate in performances; this is optional and at the interest of the individual dancer.

The Lester Horton technique was developed to fortify, stretch, lengthen and strengthen the human body in preparation for dancing. With this technique the dancers will learn how to lengthen every muscle of the body and use each section of the body in isolation and as a whole. It will help to develop a stronger core and lower back. We will work with all tempos of music, movement range, and rhythmical patterns in class. Class will be full of movement exercises that we will expand and exaggerate as the weeks progress. The syllabus is very similar to a classical ballet syllabus in that Horton gave titles to all of his movement sequences and they are practiced in each class.
Students enrolled in this class will be eligible to participate in the Spring Performance. Additional costume fees apply.

The Pilates program at North Ballet Academy is an essential supplement to classical ballet training, and also is an excellent area of fitness for anyone interested in building their core. Pilates focuses on the core postural muscles which help to keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and aim to strengthen the deep torso muscles.

Students of appropriate age and ability may choose to enroll in the Professional Division classes a la carte (Level 2 through 4 only). This program is designed to benefit dancers who take most of their classes at another studio but would like to supplement their classical ballet training at North Ballet Academy. Also, dancers who are unable to commit to the full schedule of classes for their level may choose the supplemental program option.
Dancers in the Supplemental Division are not eligible to perform in the Spring Performance and may not take any of the Pointe or Special Workshop classes without prior approval from the Director.
Please contact North Ballet Academy in order to participate in the Supplemental Division by calling 763-242-2993.
